Foot Orthotics
What
are Orthotics?
Custom made foot orthotics are specifically designed and manufactured to your
own feet. Orthotics are designed to properly redistribute the weight on the
foot and correct any abnormal foot motion. If need be, they are a corrective
device intended to alleviate any biomechanical problems in walking and standing.
By correcting these problems, other symptoms due to improper foot mechanics
such as shin splints, knee pain, hip pain and low back pain may be alleviated
or reduced.

How
do I know if I am a good candidate for orthotics?
Almost anyone can achieve some benefit from an orthotic. There are
several common symptoms that may indicate misalignment of the feet. You may
be a candidate for orthotics if:
The doctor will perform a comprehensive examination and gait analysis to determine if you are a candidate for orthotic therapy or if there are underlying causes for your problem.
What
is the process involved in ordering orthotics?
Following
an examination and gait analysis, if you are a suitable candidate the doctor
will take impressions of your feet using foam casts. This cast is sent away
to make a custom orthotic designed for your particular foot imbalance. You
can get a custom orthotic insert only which fits in the bottom of most shoes.
Or you can purchase both a shoe and custom orthotic to fit. The entire process
takes only a few weeks.
How
much do they cost?
Price
varies depending on the orthotic and shoe selected. Please call for an appointment
if you would like to obtain a quote for the orthotic that is best for you.
